Micro needling is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure that used to treat skin concerns via collagen production. Also known as collagen induction therapy .this treatment may help those looking to reduce the appearance of acne scars and stretch mark.

Micro needling Facts.

1. Microneedling reduces the appearance of fine lines and acne scars

From minimizing the appearance of fine lines, stretch marks and acne scars to repairing UV damaged skin, hyperpigmentation and rosacea, this collagen induction therapy treatment can do wonders in improving skin texture and condition.

2. A numbing cream is applied before the treatment

A topical numbing cream is used prior to the treatment to increase clients’ comfort during the treatment. Expect the microneedling pen to run continuously and to feel a slight discomfort. If it makes you feel more comfortable, you can adopt the old “no pain, no gain” creed and look forward to the result.

3. Pinpoint bleeding can occur during the treatment

It’s normal to see pinpoint bleeding during the treatment depending on the needle depth used to treat the specific condition. For instance, the highest needle setting is used on stretch marks and the lowest settings are used on the face.

4. Not to use exfoliants or skin products that may increase skin sensitivity before the treatment

Before the treatment you will be advised not to use any exfoliants, or skin products containing AHA’s (alpha hydroxy acids), BHA’s (beta hydroxy acids), Vitamin A, or steroid creams for 7 to 14 days prior your treatment. It is best to consult your esthetician for other pre-treatment instructions.

5. You will notice smoother and radiant skin in 3 to 7 days

While a bit of redness is expected immediately after the treatment, it will eventually subside within 24 to 48 hours. You will see an improvement in your skin texture and for most clients, a smoother and more radiant skin in 3 to 7 days. How’s that for a little discomfort for 30 to 60 minutes of treatment?

6. The after care must be strictly followed

As with any beauty treatments, you must follow the post-treatment instructions carefully to achieve best results. There will be after care products to be used and you may be advised not to put on makeup for a couple of days. No heavy workouts, no sunbathing or other activities that could overheat the skin. But this is only for a week at most and you can go back to your normal activities after the downtime.

There may also be some peeling a few days following the treatment. As tempting as it may feel, never try picking the skin but allow instead the area to slough off on its own.

7. Significant results can usually be seen after 3 treatments

Results are usually visible after one microneedling session. However, depending on what skin concern is being treated, significant results can vary from 3 to 8 treatments. A consultation can provide an indication on how many sessions you need to go through based on the area and condition being treated.

Micro needling can be done at an interval of 4 to 8 weeks

8. It works with any skin type

Microneedling works well on any skin type. However, if you have active acne breakouts, it is best to wait until the skin has calmed down. Microneedling is a perfect treatment for acne scars.

9. Microneedling is different from DIY dermarollers

Micro needling is a treatment performed by a licensed provider using a medical grade device. The micro needling pen comes with a disposable one-time use cartridge that promotes health and safety of both the esthetician and client. Unlike using a derma roller on your skin, the esthetician controls the depth of the needles in micro needling which makes the treatment as comfortable as possible and most importantly, safe.

Dermaroller can cause track marks if not used properly. It can also accumulate bacteria that can irritate the skin when not properly sterilized.

10. The scars will not return

If you are wondering if scars will return after some time of stopping the treatment, the answer is a definite ‘no’! Unless there is a trauma to the same area again. You are recommended to go back for maintenance appointments 1 to 2 times a year.
